K-1 ColliZion

Bob Sapp Participation at K-1 ColliZion 2010 Croatia

American K-1 fighter Bob Sapp will be the main attraction at the March 27th K-1 ColliZion Croatia (Obracun u Ringu 10) event in Split Croatia. It will be the shows 10th anniversary which was highlighted last year by Stefan Leko who suffered a KO at the hands of Romanian Raul Catinas that attracted a sell out crowd of 9,000 to the Spaladium Arena.

Sapp, who will take part in one of four K-1 super fights, has been abysmal in kickboxing of late. Although he's only fought five times in the past five years, all the outcomes have resulted in a loss. His last kickboxing victory came over Tatsufumi Tomihira at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2005 in Hiroshima. Despite the fact that this is not the Bob Sapp who knocked out four-time WGP Champion Ernesto Hoost, he'll still be a popular draw. His opponent will be Croatian Marko Tomasović who qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics at super heavyweight. At last year's Croatia ColliZion event, Tomasović defeated Serbian Milan Dalešić by TKO in the second round.

Former Croatian Muay Thai champion and 2009 K-1 ColliZion 2009 Final Tournament runner-up Mladen Brestovac will go up against Moroccan Hichan Tourar in a K-1 super fight and Golden Glory's Denis Stojnic will meet Omar Bellamar in one of two MMA super fights.

Frane Radnic will defend his WAKO World title against Frenchman Philippe Salmon, who last month in Budapest won the K-1 Collizion seeding himself in the finals in Japan.

Daniel Ghita: "Morosanu is not at my level."

Over at K-1 ColliZion, there has been an attempt to build up a fight between Romanian K-1 fighters Daniel Ghita and Catalin Morosanu over the past year.  A company that is very proud of it's Romanian heritage, ColliZion has been comparing their two native stars ever since Ghita's rise to prominence in 2009. While there's no doubt ColliZion would love to have this fight, Ghita has made it clear that's not likely: "Morosanu is not at my level.  I'm not interested in fighting him."  Instead, Ghita has his sights set on former GP champion Remy Bonjasky, who he is angling to face in the coming year.

While it is true that Ghita is a step up from Morosanu at this point, I do think Ghita needs to take some more mid-range fights and not insist on fighting men like Schilt and Bonjasky right off the bat.  A win over a fighter like Morosanu is just what Ghita needs to show that he has the talent to back up the hype he has received in the past year.

Ghita will get his chance to impress this spring for It's Showtime, as he faces Dzevad Poturak in February, Attila Karacs in March, and Hesdy Gerges in May.

K-1 ColliZion Results: Kleibl, Kraus, and Kyshenko Win

Results are in for this weekend's K-1 ColliZion show.  The event was highlighted by a one night 8-man tournament.  The tournament got off to a rocky start as two of the favorites, Freddy Kemayo and Peter Vondracek, both dropped out shortly before the event, leaving Sebastian Ciobanu the new favorite.  After Ciobanu was defeated in round 1, it was Roman Kleibl who emerged victorious, defeating Mladen Brestovac by decision in the finals after two extension rounds.  The fight was not without controversy though, as many feel Brestovac clearly won in the extension rounds.  Despite the questions, this is a good win for Kleibl, and may earn him a K-1 shot next year.

In other notable results, top 10 MAX fighters Artur Kyshenko and Albert Kraus both scored wins in their fights.  Kyshenko defeated Vladimir Moravcik via a nasty near CroCop-esque headkick KO in round 2, although the highly ranked Kyshenko did not look at peak form in the first round.  Kraus on the other hand put an absolute beating on Jan Mazur, stopping him in round 2 after numerous knockdowns.

In the other biggest result of the night, ColliZion's biggest star, MMA's Alexandru Lungu, lost in the 2nd round of his MMA fight.  This is an unfortunate loss for ColliZion, as Lungu was being heavily built up by the company.

Finally, the planned fight between Alexey Ignashov and Koos Wessels was scraped when Ignashov was forced to withdraw.

New K-1 ColliZion fights: Morosanu v. Die Faust, Ignashov v. Ciobanu

Chalid Die Faust

Chalid Die Faust

In the wake of this weekend's K-1 ColliZion show Kombat.ro has announced two fights for their upcoming events:

In January, Catalin Morosanu will face Chalid "Die Faust" Arrab.  Morosanu of course is coming off his victory over Mighty Mo, while Arrab is rumored to be facing Daniel Ghita in a reserve fight at the Grand Prix.  This is a very similar opponent for Morosanu as Mighty Mo - a chance ighter to face a known name who poses a minimal risk and continue building a resume.

And, for the next ColliZion event, Alexey Ignashov was challenged by Sebastian Ciobanu and verbally agreed to the fight.  Ciobanu is the perfect level of opponent for Ignashov right now.  There's no need for Alexey to face competition as weak as Sparks, but he also shouldn't be thrown in against a fighter like Schilt.  Ciobanu will be a great test to see if Ignashov still is relevant, or if this win was a one time return to glory.
