83 Days Out: Alan Belcher Vs Rousimar Palhares Booked For UFC On FOX 3
A bout that I've been hoping to see for quite some time will finally come to fruition, as top middleweights Alan Belcher and Rousimar Palhares will face each other at the third UFC on FOX card, scheduled for May 5th in New Jersey.
Belcher is 6-4 in the UFC middleweight division, although he does have two other victories in the organization, one at 195 pounds and one at 205 pounds. He has put together a three fight winning streak stretching back to 2009 despite spending considerable time on the shelf due to a serious eye injury. He returned from that injury to stop Jason Macdonald in the first round at UFC Fight Night 25 this past September.
Palhares is also riding a three fight winning streak, his most recent triumph over Mike Massenzio at UFC 142. Considered one of the most dangerous submission fighters in the world, Palhares is 7-2 in his UFC career, having lost only to Dan Henderson by decision and to Nate Marquardt by TKO, although the Marquardt fight has to be considered a bit of an anomaly, as Palhares was finished after pausing to complain to the referee about potential grease on Marquardt's leg. The winner of this fight could easily find themselves as the number one contender to the middleweight title.
Alan Belcher is the 14th ranked middleweight in the world. He fights out of Roufusport.
Rousimar Palhares is the 15th ranked middleweight in the world. He fights out of Brazilian Top Team.
102 Days Out: Nathan Diaz vs Jim Miller, Lightweight Division.
102 Days Out: John Dodson vs Darren Uyenoyama, Flyweight Division.

94 Days Out: Lavar Johnson vs Pat Barry, Heavyweight Division.
93 Days Out: Mike Massenzio vs Karlos Vemola, Middleweight Division.
92 Days Out: Louis Gaudinot vs John Lineker, Flyweight Division.

88 Days Out: Pascal Krauss vs John Hathaway, Welterweight Division.

Yes! I'm glad that you like it as much as I do.
I’ve been hoping and mentioning this fight for as long as I can remember since Belcher beat Macdonald.
In fact, I’m a pretty big Alan Belcher supporter, despite the fact he hasn’t faced the best the division has to offer. I thought that he deserved the victory over Akiyama and he’s won every fight he’s had since, so to me he’s on a four fight winning streak.
What do you think of his chances here? I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Belcher win a unanimous decision here. That being said, Palhares looks to have sharpened and improved his game since his last big fight, against Marquardt, so he could very well make it a short night for Belcher…

I think if Belcher can stay upright, he has the striking skill and creativity to give Palhares fits. I don't think that he will be able to get the finishm though,
If this even gets remotely close to the ground, Rousimar will do what he does. Belcher needs to fight him at distance, Any type of close range game is going to open him up for a Palhares TD or guard pull.
I am leaning towards Palhares though because his striking has improved enough I think for him to get the fight where he wants it eventually. It’s a real toss up, though.

I don't like this fight as much
I was hoping they gave Paul another strong Wrestler to prep him to take out Chael when the time comes and maybe gave Belcher Bisping
