Fight Announcement: Hominick vs. Yagin, Wiman vs. Bocek at UFC 145

The UFC has announced that Eddie Yagin and former title contender Mark Hominick have agreed to a featherweight bout at Montreal's UFC 145.

Hominick (20-10-0) will be looking to pull himself out of a two-fight rut, having dropped a unanimous decision in his title bid against Jose Aldo before suffering an upset knockout loss to Chan Sung Jung last December. That fight was Hominick's first since the passing of his friend and trainer, Shawn Tompkins.

Eddie Yagin (15-5-1) found himself in the UFC after a victory over former Bellator champ Joe Soto. His debut proved disappointing in nearly every respect, however, after a tepid three-round affair with Junior Assuncao gave way to a unanimous decision loss.

By contrast, lightweights Matt Wiman (14-6-0) and Mark Bocek (10-4-0) are both coming off of impressive victories, with Wiman emerging from an exciting fight against Mac Danzig with a unanimous decision victory to his credit, and Bocek taking a win over Nik Lentz, who was previously undefeated in the UFC.

UFC 145 takes place March 24 at Montreal's Bell Centre. A headline fight has yet to be announced.

Some pretty solid fights, I think

I’m not crazy about seeing Yagin again, but he’s a sensible match given where Hominick is. The Wiman vs. Bocek fight seems totally excellent.

Agree wholeheartedly about Wiman/Bocek.

Hominick is getting some (for better or for worse) love here huh?

Interesting to see him get matched up with another supposedly inferior opponent on his home soil yet again.

If I were Hominick I might have wanted to keep my head down, go on the road and get back on track. Fighting for a third straight time at home, after losing the first two, seems like it would bring with it some pretty intense pressure.

If you are going to lie to me, then we are going to box

Yeah, it’s a ton of pressure, and it seems like Hominick has already dealt with more than his share this year. But what the hell, maybe he’s one of those guys that draws strength from the hometown crowd. I always imagined that I’d hate it, personally
