Erika Kamimura Wins Girls S-Cup 2011 Japan Tournament, Rena Beats Zaza
Japanese female kickboxing upstart Erika Kamimura was able to top the field at the Girls S-Cup 2011 Japan Preliminary Tournament on Friday. Meanwhile, Rena Kubota bounced back from a difficult start to 2011 with a win over Zaza Sor. Aree in non-tournament action.
Erika Kamimura defeated Seo Hee Ham in the tournament final on Friday, riding superior striking and an attempt at a submission to a decision victory. Kamimura reportedly knocked Ham down in the third round with a right hook. The 18-year-old looks to have a bright future, given this tournament win, her impressive performance against Rena, and strong record.
Kamimura took a much quicker path to the tournament final than Ham, as she secured stoppage wins in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.
In non-tournament action, Rena Kubota ended Zaza Sor. Aree's night early with a body shot in the second round of their contest. The win was much needed for Rena, given the trouble she has had in her last two outings. In addition to the exhibition about Erika Kamimura, Rena recently dropped a title bout to Ai Takahashi.
Nightmare of Battle reports that Rena will need meet Erika Kamimura at a RISE event in November.
