Shootboxing Girls S-Cup 2011 This Weekend, Rena Meets Zaza in Super Fight

via shootboxing.org

This year's edition of the Shootboxing Girls S-Cup is set to kick off this Friday, August 19th, with the 2011 Japan Tournament. The event will feature the rising Erika Kamimura and Seo Hee Ham in tournament action, as well as a non-tournament bout between Rena Kubota and Zaza Sor. Aree.

The Girls S-Cup was given a bit of a boost when Erika Kamimura entered the field, following an injury to Ai Takahashi which cancelled their planned non-tournament bout for Friday's event. Shortly after the cancellation of that bout, it was learned that Kamimura, who dominated an exhibition bout against two-time Girls S-Cup winner Rena Kubota back in April, would be entering the tournament field.

The quarterfinal round of Friday's tournament will see Kamimura meet Kanako Oka. After her surprising success against Rena in April, Kamimura appeared against Titiana van Polanen at RISE 80 in July. She again found success, putting her opponent away inside of one round. As for Kanako Oka, she topped Mizuki Inoue in a shootboxing bout back in May of last year.

Other quarterfinal bouts will pit MMA standout 'Windy' Tomomi Sunaba against Miyo Yoshida, former Girls S-Cup runner-up 'V.V' Mei Yamaguchi against Mina, and solid striker Seo Hee Ham against Emi Fujino.

As mentioned, Rena Kubota and Zaza Sor. Aree will be meeting in a rather intriguing non-tournament bout. Rena could really use a win here, having been handled by Erika Kamimura in April and taken a subsequent decision loss against rival Ai Takahashi. Zaza also lost to Takahashi earlier this year, as she was stopped in the second round of their bout at Shootboxing 2011 Act 1.

The scarcity of women’s kickboxing videos on Youtube scares me sometimes. I wanna get into it, but can’t ever find the medium for it or the availability of watching it live.

No live stream on this one.

Shootboxing is trying to incorporate live streams again though. Perhaps I’ll try to post some female kickboxing bouts in the fanshots section some time soon.
