Glory World Series: Sergei Kharitonov Superior in Knockout Win Over Mighty Mo
In his first kickboxing bout since last December, mixed martial artist Sergei Kharitonov was able to use superior technique to frustrate 'Mighty' Mo Siliga and stop the Samoan heavyweight inside of one round.
Siliga's age and long-time struggle establishing himself as more than a power puncher were evident from the start, as Kharitonov eluded the Samoan's overhand strikes while throwing solid combinations and landing with effective knees.
Kharitonov's opening to end the bout seemed evident from the start, as Mo chose to repeatedly leave himself exposed while leaning forward on the inside. The Russian heavyweight was ultimately able to capitalize, dropping Mo with an uppercut which the Samoan was unable to get up from.
The interest in Kharitonov's kickboxing exploits took a significant hit last December, as he was knocked out inside of one round by Singh Jaideep in a non-tournament bout at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 Final. Today's win over Mighty Mo is certain to repair some of the damage done by that loss, but many are likely to debate the quality of the win. Mo certainly possesses a bigger name than Kharitonov's last kickboxing opponent, but it would be disingenuous to act as though the threat presented by the Samoan heavyweight was anything other than one-dimensional.
