Sergei Kharitonov vs. Mighty Mo Set for Glory World Series May 28th
Sergei Kharitonov is set to make his return to kickboxing on May 28th, as he'll meet K-1 veteran 'Mighty Mo' Siliga in a heavyweight tilt at the Glory World Series finale. The announcement of the bout between Kharitonov and Siliga certainly brings added interest to the event, which will host the conclusion of United Glory's ongoing heavyweight kickboxing and welterweight MMA tournaments.
Kharitonov last appeared in a kickboxing bout at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 Final, where he was stopped early by Singh Jaideep in a non-tournament bout. The Russian heavyweight has since made his return to mixed martial arts, knocking out both Tatsuya Mizuno and Andrei Arlovski in just over four minutes combined.
Mighty Mo went 2-2 in kickboxing bouts last year, first appearing at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 in Bucharest, stopping Roman Kleibl before being knocked out by Sebastian Ciobanu in the tournament semifinals. The American Samoan then took a decision victory over Raul Catinas at the K-1 World Grand Prix Final 16 in Seoul, advancing to the tournament final in December. There, Mo was defeated by Peter Aerts in the quarterfinal round.
Although many fans are already pretty well set on where the striking of Sergei Kharitonov stands, this bout will offer him the opportunity to prove himself against a solid K-1 veteran. Mighty Mo has the sort of power that could cause real trouble for Kharitonov, but is less likely to technically pick the Russian apart than many of the other opponents that he would have to go through to break into the highest levels of kickboxing. What's more, this bout will offer Kharitonov a great chance to stay active while waiting to learn who his opponent will be in the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament semifinals, as potential opponents Josh Barnett and Brett Rogers aren't scheduled to meet until June.

Fuck the Strikeforce GP. Can’t even keep its participants busy (Werdum hasn’t fought since he beat Fedor, etc).

Hmm?

Release all their UFC-worthy fighters (everyone in the GP except Barnett – throw Rogers a bone, he’s lost to Fedor and Overeem even though he looked like shit against Warpath) and allow them to sign with an organization that has a roster capable of keeping them busy three times a year or so.
Mayhem is just one example of a guy that SF can’t find work for, because potential match ups turn him down and they don’t have enough guys hungry enough to gamble on fighting him. Aaron Simpson is a perfect welcome fight for Mayhem, as would, say, Mitrione be for Kharitonov. This will be Sergei’s second sport since beating Arlovski. Part of it’s the Barnett bullshit, part of it is the utter paucity of SF’s roster beyond their top three in any division.

Well, the issues they have with their divisions...
Not the whole “release everyone” thing.

I just feel like Showtime can eat it at this point. There are more than enough up-and-comers and veterans looking for paydays (see Jardine, Keith) to fill out the obligations of their contract with SF – I say methodically pluck the guys we want to see against the best in the world, and then attempt a farm system/exciting fights/up and comers v old timers for UFC contracts thing for the duration of the contract. If it works, keep it, if it doesn’t, burn it.

You really should be in politics, Subo.
Or at least be employed by Zuffa. You know how to take any topic and twist it around into a pro-Zuffa tirade.

C'mon, guys
Can we stop wishing Strikeforce a painful death long enough to talk about how awesome United Glory is? Their fight cards are consistently amazing, and they keep adding more high profile fighters to each card. Now if they could just land Badr Hari…

There we go.
The exact sort of mentality that we need.

I love Sergei but Mo KO's him...
Calling it right now.
Sergei gets hit way too much and Mo has some serious power.
