Shootboxing 2011 Act 2 Results: Andy Souwer Bests Yoshihiro Sato, Hiroaki Suzuki Wins

via shootboxing.org

Former K-1 MAX champion Andy Souwer continued to build momentum with a victory over Yoshihiro Sato in the main event at Shootboxing 2011 Act 2 on Saturday in Tokyo. Souwer won the bout via unanimous decison, with reported scorecards of 30-29, 30-29, and 30-28.

The victory puts Souwer one step further away from the questions surrounding him following upset losses to Toby Imada last November and Abraham Roqueni in February. Souwer looked to return to form against L'houcine Ouzgni at the It's Showtime Sporthallen Zuid event in early March, outclassing his Moroccan opponent en route to a clear decision victory.

As for Yoshihiro Sato, the Japanese standout is now 1-2 since losing to Giorgio Petrosyan in the final round of the K-1 World MAX 2010 Final. Sato's first bout of 2011 came in early January under the Krush banner, as he defeated Shemsi Beqiri via split decision in a bout that many fans have argued might have gone the wrong way. Armen Petrosyan followed for Sato, as the two met at the Fight Code: Oktagon 2011 event in Milan on March 12th. Petrosyan won via unanimous decision in one of the uglier bouts that you'll find around.

Shootboxing 2011 Act 2 also saw Hiroaki Suzuki return to action, the top Japanese fighter having last defeated Sengoku veteran Shigeki Osawa in an excellent bout at Shootboxing's first major event of the year in February. It seems things may have been more clear cut for Suzuki this time, as he defeated Korean Muay Thai specialist Wu Hu Kim by unanimous decision on three cards of 30-27.

Former Japanese boxing champion Satoru Suzuki scored another knockout victory against Masahiro Shimada. Suzuki put on perhaps the most memorable performance of Shootboxing 2011 Act 1 in February, as he quickly dispatched Kuniyoshi Hironaka when the Cage Force champion foolishly attempted to trade shots with him.

The event hosted both of Shootboxing's top female fighters, as RENA and Ai Takahashi competed in separate bouts. RENA was left to compete in an exhibition bout against young J-Girls veteran Erika Kamimura after her original opponent, Sun Young Kim, pulled out of the their scheduled bout. Kamimura is reported to have surprisingly outclassed RENA in the short exhibition, actually knocking the female face of Shootboxing down with a hook. Meanwhile, Ai Takahashi secured victory with a first round knockout in her bout.

Fights videos will be up when available.
