Monday Morning Head Kicks: March 14th to 20th

Another edition of Monday Morning Head Kicks. We've got some fight videos, some photos, a little discussion, some results, and a fair amount of disappointment with a certain event that I've still seen zero professional video for.

Jon Jones secured the UFC light heavyweight title on Saturday, while some fighters in and around the top 25 of their respective divisions made waves at the event and elsewhere.

The United Glory stream went down and all things seemingly fell apart there. Still no word on the full results, but everything that has come in points to about what you would expect.

Romania's Local Kombat played host to a pretty nice little event on Friday afternoon, with a fair number of relevant heavyweights in action. Both Bogdan and Andrei Stoica also fought on the card.

In the interest of keeping things brief, let's go.

Gokhan Saki, Brice Guidon Win at United Glory Second Round: Well, this event ended up being a bit of a mess. Gokhan Saki came back from injury and defeated Wendell Roche. The fight went to decision and Saki evidently came away having taken a lot of damage en route to the win. Not exactly what any Saki fan will want to hear, but we'll see how he fares going forward. Saki-Roche fight video here. Brice Guidon took out Mourad Bouzidi in the second round of their bout. Saki and Guidon in the final could definitely be interesting.

It's Showtime Brussels Promo Video: Watch it. Ignore the part about the first bout featuring Yavuz Kayabasi and Andy Ristie, it's being replaced because of injury. More on that soon.

UFC 128 Highlights Issue with Muay Thai in MMA: Before anybody takes that the wrong way, I say this for two reasons. First, Maurcio Rua is, and was, not the Muay Thai monster that some would have liked to believe. I'm not the first person to mention that, but it's the truth. Perhaps less to prove the point and more because it's an awesome bout, take a look back at Rua-Nogueira; Mike Fagan made a post about the fight over at Bloody Elbow last month.

Second reason: Misrepresentation. There was a great post over at My Muay Thai a couple weeks back exploring the issues with the way Muay Thai is presented in MMA. Last night, Mike Goldberg made mention of Anderson Silva's knockout victory over Vitor Belfort just after Jon Jones connected with a push kick on Mauricio Rua. If you remember the mostly pointless debate over what Silva's technique was, you should understand why that's an issue. If you don't, read that piece over My Muay Thai a second time.

Freddy Kemayo vs. Sebastian Ciobanu Fight Video: One of the bigger fights on the Local Kombat / Wako-Pro card on March 18th. Video here.

Sergei Lascenko Training at Mike's Gym: The young Ukrainian fighter has been training alongside Badr Hari at Mike's Gym. Check out one of the photos posted on the Mike's Gym Facebook page. Lascenko defeated Sebastian Ciobanu and Brice Guidon in back-to-back K-1 bouts in late 2009.

Robin van Roosmalen Wins Again: Perhaps the win wasn't as big as his last, but van Roosmalen secured another victory at Saturday's United Glory event. Riding a five fight win streak with two wins in March (the first being against Chahid Oulad el Hadj at the It's Showtime event on March 6th), van Roosmalen is definitely putting in solid work as of late.

Star-divide

It's Showtime: Sporthallen Zuid Amsterdam Highlight: It's Showtime posted this highlight on their Youtube channel a couple days ago. It's pretty good, get to see some of the preliminary action. Rico Voerhoeven really did get caught in his bout, and Warren Stevelmans plainly took Mo Medhar's legs out. Watch the video here.

Errol Zimmerman, Nieky Holzken Too Much for Opponents at United Glory: Both Zimmerman and Holzken were given bouts against outmatched French fighters. Both finished their opponents in the first round of their bouts. Errol Zimmerman vs. Zinedine Hamer-Lain fight video here. Nieky Holzken vs. Wendy Annonay fight video here.

Benjamin Adegbuyi vs. Dzenan Poturak Fight Video: While Dzevad Poturak was successful at the Local Kombat event on Friday, Dzenan was not. Check out his quick bout against Romania's Benjamin Adegbuyi here.
