Shootboxing 2011 Act 1 Results: Shishido Victorious, Osawa Drops Decision
In the main event of the evening, Hiroki Shishido squared off against Thai fighter Bovy Sor. Udomson in a rematch of their 2009 bout. While Udomson ultimately scored a knockout victory in their first bout, Shishido was able to come away with the five round decision in the rematch. Shishido was able to not only avenge the earlier loss, but also get himself back on track a bit here following two losses in 2010. Shishido was defeated by Miloud El Geubli by decision in a bout which required an extra round back in September and then lost to Buakaw Por. Pramuk in the quarterfinals at S-Cup 2010. Udomson also lost in the quarterfinals at S-Cup 2010 as he was knocked out by Andy Souwer. More recently, Udomson dropped a Muay Thai bout to French transplant Antuan Siangboxing in Thailand.
Former Japanese middleweight boxing champion Satoru Suzuki was able to knock out Kuniyoshi Hironaka with a right cross in the first round of what sounds to have been a fairly exciting bout. Hironaka, lightweight champion of the Cage Force promotion, was able to execute a great takedown early in the round. While Hironaka was able to mount some offense, it is clear that Suzuki ultimately turned the tables with superior boxing and put his opponent away in short order. Hironaka has struggled outside of Cage Force, as he lost both 2010 MMA bouts in which he ventured outside the promotion, being knocked out by Katsunori Kikuno at DREAM 13 and submitted by Satoru Kitaoka at Pancrase's Passion Tour 9.
In other action, Hiroaki Suzuki followed up his knockout win over Mitsuhiro Ishida at S-Cup 2010 with a decision victory over Sengoku veteran Shigeki Osawa. The bout sounds to have been an exciting one, with Suzuki seeming to give Osawa problems by throwing straight hands. It sees Suzuki floored Osawa on one occasion while Osawa looked to score with takedowns. It also sounds as though there were a couple yellow cards introduced during the course of the bout. Even though he lost the bout, Osawa appears to have acquitted himself well for an MMA fighter with a strong wrestling base.
Ai Takahashi was able to use superior reach to score with straight punches against Zaza Sor. Aree, en route to a second round technical knockout. While Takahashi may have used her reach throughout the bout, it seems she also displayed real skill in close, as reports indicate that she ended the bout with a knee that forced a referee stoppage.
With Shooto champion Yasuhiro Urushitani being forced to withdraw from his bout with Kazuyuki Fushimi because of injury, Fushimi ultimately squared off against fellow Shootboxing veteran Koya Shimada. It seems that Shimada's southpaw stance gave Fushimi fits throughout the bout, which ultimately ended via head kick in the second round.
I've heard that Shootboxing 2011 Act 1 is set to broadcast in Japan on Samurai TV in a little over a week, so we'll try to get some videos for you in time.
