Georges St. Pierre Has a Blown ACL, Condit vs Diaz for Interim Title at UFC 143

Yea, that's how I looked, too.

Dear. F'n Crimminy. This has been about the most bizarre couple of months inside and outside of the ring for the welterweight division I can remember in years. Not since Matt Serra bingo'd GSP has such bizarreness happened at 170 pounds.

From Dana White's Twitter:

GSP blown acl will be out for 10 mos. Now Condit vs Diaz for the interim welterweight title on Feb 4th in Las Vegas!!

Carlos Condit, who has been bounced around like a pinball, and Nick Diaz, for all his craziness and foibles, have found themselves poised to ascend - at least temporarily - to the throne as the best welterweight in the world without having to dethrone one of the best pound-for-pound champions in the short history of this sport.

This is a huge opportunity for these men as well as a huge blow to the pockets of the UFC. St. Pierre was one of the few athletes on the roster capable of generating hundreds of thousands of PPV buys all on his lonesome. This comes on the heels of a terrible 2011 as far as buyrates go, and a still stagnant economy, so excluding 141 a few weeks from now with Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem, there's no big-name PPV to help the UFC's profit margins.

This is a real shame for Georges....

That being said, this is a better fight for the fans.

GSP Diaz was probably going to be a technical match on the mat, with GSP avoiding submissions and using his dominant top game to control Diaz. The excitement around that fight stems from whether or not Diaz could pull of a submission or perhaps keep a tired GSP on his feet in the later rounds and score a TKO.

This fight is going to be a wild affair. Both men have superb stand-up and great ground games. And most importantly they both seek to end the fight as soon as possible. I can’t wait.

All these, uh, dealmakers making deals. Ya know, I don't, all I know is I'm ready to fight so, ya know, I'm sorry I didn't make it to the beauty pageant.

I disagree with this was such a great match up

For some reason it appears that fighters don’t work their way up anymore. I say Diaz needs to fight Shields, Kosheck, and Jon Fitch. If he beats all these guys he gets a title shot. Who has he fought?? Paul Daley?? BJ Penn stepped up a weight class.

My answer would be

Those three have already failed, so why take the chance on knocking out a different contender when you can just have fresh meat step in.

Not saying I agree with that 100%, but that’s what the answer is
