Shootboxing 2011 Act 1: A Week's Worth of Announcements
Well, we now have a total of four confirmed bouts for Shootboxing 2011 Act 1, which will happen on February 19th.
We were already aware of the main event for the evening, as Hiroki Shishido is set to take on Thai fighter Bovy Sor. Udomson. Udomson, who knocked out Shishido in their 2009 bout, will look to rebound from a recent loss to Antuan Siangboxing in a WPMF title match in Thailand.
Early in the week, Fraser Coffeen over at LiverKick.com reported an additional two bouts after further information was posted on Shootboxing's official website.
As Fraser noted, Sengoku and Pancrase bantamweight Shigeki Osawa is set to take on Hiroaki Suzuki at 65kg. in the first of those bouts, while the number two female fighter for Shootboxing, Ai Takahashi, will meet Zaza Sor. Aree in the other.
In addition to these two bouts, Fraser noted that Kuniyoshi Hironaka would be on the card, although his opponent had not been named at that time.
The name of the opponent was revealed Friday, and I'll let Nightmare of Battle help you out with the translation:
Cage Force Lightweight champion Kuniyoshi Hironaka’s opponent for his second Shoot Boxing fight has been announced and it is Boxer-turned-Kickboxer Satoru Suzuki.
I can tell you that Satoru Suzuki was the Japanese middleweight boxing champion on two different occasions. He first gained the title in 2000, lost it in 2002, and regained it in 2005 with a split decision victory of Eiji Kano. He quickly lost the title again and the rest is history.
So there you have it folks, we've got four full bouts announced for the first Shootboxing card of the year and it looks like it's going to be an enjoyable one. We'll keep you updated as more news rolls in.
