Manny Gamburyan Meets Raphael Assuncao at UFC 128
A featherweight bout between former title contender, Manny Gamburyan and perennial top contender, Raphael Assuncao has been added to the UFC 128 preliminary card. The booking was revealed on the
UFC's official website.
This will be Gamburyan's first bout since he was demolished by UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo at WEC 51 in September. Assuncao will enter the bout following a unanimous decision win over LC Davis that saw the Brazilian snap a two fight losing streak.
There has already been some complaints about the decision to place two of the higher ranked featherweights in the world on the preliminary card. Since the WEC merger we have also seen the same treatment being dealt out to former featherweight champion, Mike Brown and top contender Diego Nunes and also on the UFC 128 preliminary card, top ranked bantamweight, Joe Benavidez will face Ian Loveland in another bout with future title implications.
So what say you? Are the WEC featherweights and bantamweights getting a fair go or is the UFC building them up the right way?
After the jump, the full UFC 128 card.

they are building them up the right way without losing PPV money
Because of the low exposure these “little” guys get they wont bring in money. So building them up by putting the higher ranked “little” guys on prelims who will be televised. Makes somewhat sense business wise. And with the way they fight they will make instant fans of everyone who will see them fight
About this fight, i hope Raphael beats Gamburyan i cant stand that arrogant fast talking face of Manny.
Edson Barboza and Charles Oliveira are gonna stir up the pot at 155!

I think the UFC could really be doing some more to promote the feathwerweights and bantamweights. The arrival of two new weight classes hould have been a big deal, but it’s been barely mentioned on UFC television. And not just on this card but on the upcoming UFC 126 we have major contenders’ matches in these divisions relegated to the prelims. These things may come with time, but at the moment it’s not ideal.
As for the fight, I have Manny pulling it out, but it’s a close one.
