Three Reasons To Watch Shark Fights 13 This Weekend

When there comes a weekend when none of the major players in the MMA game put forward a pay-per-view event, it would lead you to believe that you are going to have a fight free weekend and save a dime or two along the way.

However, Shark Fights are putting on a solid fight card this weekend — Shark Fights are a mixed martial arts organization based in Amarillo, Texas.

They have been putting on MMA events for almost two years now and for their thirteenth event they have thrown all their eggs into one basket to showcase one of the better looking fight cards put forward by a non-Zuffa organization in quite some time.

Here's why you should spend that little bit extra and get a lot in return this Saturday night.

1. Mix of Talent

All in all Shark Fights have put forward ten mixed martial artists — all of which have their own element which makes their fight unique.

One of the best things about Shark Fights 13 is the incredible mix of talent. There are established names in the MMA world such as Keith Jardine, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Paul Daley and Houston Alexander who all bring plenty of experience and name exposure to this great organization.

But along with that you have plenty of skilled fighters who don't carry that name value — men like Bellator season one stand out Jorge Masvidal or Ronnie Mann who some of you may recognize from Sengoku's Featherweight Grand Prix last year.

Together you have a mixed card with veteran names looking to prove that they aren't washed up all the way down to little know mixed martial artists looking to put their name on the map.

2. Sherdog Preliminary Bouts

Before you tune in to the pay-per-view you have the opportunity to watch all five preliminary bouts from Shark Fights 13 on leading mixed martial arts website Sherdog.com

Other organizations such as Strikeforce have aired selected preliminary bouts on Sherdog however this is the first time that a complete five bout under card has been streamed live for a free audience over the internet.

And they did not give you a boring slection of fights to watch neither — the preliminary portion of the night will be headlined by a Featherweight Championship bout between defending Champion Douglas Evans and Ronnie Mann.

Also, former WEC combatant Karen Darabedyan looks to get back to his winning ways following two disappointing defeats. He will face rising star Daniel Straus who brings in a 12-3 record and a well rounded skill set.

And veteran of the UFC, Pete Spratt looks to make quick work of Shark Fights stand out Eric Davila in the opening bout of the evening.

All in all, Sherdog is going to put forward a very interesting fight card this Saturday night.

3. Three Main Event Quality Bouts

Shark Fights have went out of their way to get the best talent possible for their upcoming Shark Fights 13 event and as a result have put forward three main-event quality bouts.

The first — possibly the forgotten bout on this card, disgraced former UFC combatant, Paul Daley looks to keep riding the wave of post-Zuffa success with a victory over Jorge Masvidal.

Masvidal has made a name for himself competing for a number of organizations such as Bodog, Strikeforce, Sengoku and most notably Bellator and this may very well be the biggest fight of his career to date.

Both men have heavy hands and have no trouble throwing them, all in all this will be an exciting clash and likely your fight of the night.

The co-main event of the evening pits two former UFC stand outs against one another. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou has been pretty inconsistent since leaving the big time fight promotion but has won his past two bouts and looks to make it three.

His opponent, Houston Alexander got cut from the UFC this past year following a horrible showing against former backyard fighter Kimbo Slice. Since then he has went 1-1 and now has The African Assasin in his sights.

Another feet based affair with two deadly strikers, either man could leave victorious in that one.

And your main event of the evening, the much anticipated return of "The Dean of Mean" since being cut from the UFC  after a four-fight losing streak.

His opponent, Trevor Prangley has also competed in the UFC as well as Bodog and Strikeforce however has not tasted victory in over a year but looks to change that with a huge upset over a notable name in this sport.

This is the make of break night for Keith Jardine, expect fireworks in this one.

Im really looking forward to Saffiedine/Larson.

I think Saffiedine is a future top 10 WW, and a win over a B+ opponent like Larson will put him on his way.

looking forward to see masvidal vs daley

I think daley could have a future in k1 max.
He also trains on a regular basis at mike’s gym.

And he doesnt have to get frustrated because he is being smothered on the ground.

Does daley have a future in k1 ?

I doubt Daley can make 70KG

Yeah, Daley’s biggest K-1 problem would be weight. Unlike MMA, K-1 has a very limited number of weight classes. There are no classes between MAX, which is 70kg (or roughly the UFC Lightweight division), and Heavyweight, which has no limit. Maybe he could drop down to 70, but it would be a pretty big cut, and if he couldn’t, he’s just too small for the HW ranks.

Setting that aside and just looking at his skills, he has good, powerful hands, but lacks a complete stand-up game with defense, strikes, etc. I think his hands would be enough to get him past some lower level guys, but he would likely be picked apart by the upper level fighters who are real technicians. For a good example, check out Kawajiri’s brief K-1 run last year.

I was just looking for some insight.

Because i know he trains regular at a kickboxing gym and really dont care for the ground aspect of mma.

I think he could be entertaining at a lower level, but there is now money to be made

Bas and Don called the Sakuraba vs Little Nog fight, and it was epic for all the wrong reasons. The fact that Don had just been brutally knocked out by Gary Goodridge only an hour earlier might have had something to do with that though………..
