Aleksander Emelianenko's Mystery Illness Revealed: Hep C
An original part of the Affliction Curse which eventually did the promotion in was the brother of Fedor, Aleks, having to pull out from Affliction: Banned due to a mystery illness that left the athletic commission unable to allow him to fight, for both his safety and his opponent's. Affliction: Banned was a weird show; something new with a great live atmosphere and a lot of excitement around it. At the time, while running my old website, we had a writer on the floor and backstage who texted me that Aleks would be unable to fight and from what he heard from a reliable source, Aleksander had Hepatitis C. We opted, regardless of how big the story was at the time, not to run with it as to not compromise the source backstage and not to particularly put Aleksander's career in jeopardy if it was not true.
Well, never mind that. MiddleEasy posted this, which comes straight from MMARocks.
"We planned to put Mariusz Pudzianowski against Aleksander Emelianenko, but the unpleasant thing happened. Aleksander has got Hepatitis C, that's a serious disease and we won't risk Mariusz's or any of our fighters' health in such a fight. It's safe to say that because of that the deal between our promotion and Aleksander won't come to fruition"
Tough luck. [Source]

That's a shame.
Aleks has always been a favorite of mine. I was holding on to hope that it wasn’t Hepatitis C, and one day I’d be able to see him fight live on TV. I recall previous conversations about this subject in which people were proclaiming certain cases of Hep C were in fact curable. Is there still hope? If so, don’t you think he would have done something about it by now? And what about the guys he’s fought since he got Hep C?
Basically, if he has fought, it isn't good
If I were one of them I’d get a good lawyer and sue the promoters for not testing him. If they did, sue them harder. It is sad, but it is true.
It sucks because Aleks was a great fighter and for a guy his size he had crazy handspeed and a ton of potential. There is a 51% recovery rate from it, so if it has been this long I’m not sure that Aleks will ever get over it.
