Semmy Schilt Possibly in Talks with the UFC

Or at least that is what his press release seems to suggest.

http://www.fightofthenight.com/news/is-k-1-star-semmy-schilt-set-to-sign-for-the-ufc/

Fightofthenight.com reports that the 6 foot 11 inch Dutch K-1 star is in talks with Dana White over switching back to MMA and fighting in the UFC heavyweight division. An MMA veteran with over 40 professional fights, including some in the UFC, Schilt has the MMA experience to be the real deal in the UFC rather than a mere "freakshow" like boxer James Toney's upcoming bout with UFC hall of famer Randy Couture.

Barriers still exist. Schilt may be posturing in the face of the possible dire financial situation of K-1's parent company FEG. (See: http://www.headkicklegend.com/2010/8/18/1629578/things-falling-apart-fegs-cracks )  Dana White has been stubborn with fighters competing in other combat sports while under UFC contract, most famously with Fedor's request to compete in Sambo tournaments, so competing in both K-1 and the UFC may not be possible. Also, at 36 years of age, Schilt has a limited window to begin cross-training again and compete at the highest level.

Schilt’s ground game has always been his downfall, and even though he has a dangerous triangle, hopefully he’s been visiting good BJJ and wrestling camps to polish up.
