On August 4th former fly weight (112 pounds) champion of Thailand Pakon Sakyothin fought Pinsiam Sor. Amnuaysirichock at a 129 pound catch weight after Pakon failed to make the 125 pound limit. He was forced to give up 40,000 Baht (roughly 1300 American dollars) to his opponent. Nonetheless the top 3 ranked FW Sakyothin was too skilled, and too big for the outmatched Pinsiam.
In other action highly touted Manasak Sitniwat was stopped by the #10 Raja stadium contender Sitisak Siangsimeawgym at a 128 catch weight. Manasak who is thought to be a future multiple weight champion, is only 17, and stands near 6 feet tall. Even with the loss the young prodigy has a bright future.
On August 10th top ranked Khem Sitsongpeenong returned to action in his home country after a competitive yet clear cut decision loss to Giorgio Petrosyan in March. He faced top 3 ranked Super Welterweight Prakiysiang Sit Or for the Thailand SWW championship. After 4 tough rounds, the challenger emerged in the 5th as the better fighter, and in a mild upset took the title away from Sitsongpeenong.
Also on the 10th, 2005 sports writers fighter of the year Nong-O Sit O returned to action after being stopped by Saencahi Sor. Kingstar in May. The loss to Saencahi derailed his hopes to become only the 5th person in the history of Muay Thai to become a 2 time fighter of the year. The other 4 to win the award twice are, Anuwat Kaewsamrit, (2003, 2004) Saenchai Sor. Kingstar, (1999, 2008) Kaensak Sor Ploenchit, (1989, 1990) and Samart Payakaroon who won the award 3 times. (1981, 1983, 1988) He was not given an easy opponent as he took on Pornsaneh 13Rianexpress who is a multiple weight champion in Thailand, and who is known for heavy hands, and heavy kicks. After being hurt in R3, Pornsaneh came back in R4 to buckle Nong-O and nearly knock him out, but got a taste of his own medicine and again was hurt by Nong-O. The under appreciated legend Nong-O was able to control the distance in the 5th, and won the hard fought 5 round war.

Love this! Keep the in-depth Muay Thai coming!
Pretty surprised to see Khem lose as he looked good against Petrosyan and in his tournament win in Italy. Have you seen this fight? If so, I’d love to see it.
