Video of the Day: Remembering Peter "Hurricane" Smit
Before the Dutch Kickboxer became such a well known entity across the world, there were fighters like Peter Smit. Smit was one of the best of his time, a Karetaka who ventured into kickboxing and Muay Thai, a formula that has seemingly been repeated over the years with moderate success. The big thing is, at the time, Smit was good, real good. The video above is from Lumpinee Stadium in Thailand from 1990 of his legendary first fight with Changpuak Kiatsongrit. It was an all-out war and shows just how well Smit adapted to Muay Thai rules. Smit passed away 5 years ago today from injuries due to a gunshot wound. Peter Aerts still wears "RIP Peter Smit" on his trunks, if you haven't noticed.

Never saw him fight before. His boxing was very…karate.

Still beat the dude though. The Thais always favor their lower limbs. If they improved their boxing they’d be even deadlier.
