Badr Hari v. Igor Kirsis (MMA) Fight Video

Here's a fight that gets talked about from time to time but is not much seen.  Badr Hari v. Igor Kirsis in Hari's lone venture into the world of MMA.  This is from a Shooto Holland card in May 2002.  Amazingly, Badr is just 17 years old here, and does he ever look it.  Hari has been very vocal about his dislike for competing in MMA, and, well, here's why...

I think my favorite part of this is Hari's look of disgust and irritation when he gets up, as if to say "screw this."

Though it's unclear from this angle, the official ruling was submission due to a forearm choke.  If you're not a big MMA viewer, a forearm choke is basically just pushing your forearm down against your opponent's throat.  It surely hurts, but is a pretty basic move and not one you expect to get the tap out.  For what it's worth, fellow K-1 star Branco Cikatic also tapped to a forearm choke in MMA, showing that, while both men are kickboxing giants, neither really belongs in an MMA setting.

Great Find!

That was beautiful, single leg to side control and then one of the easiest submissions to get out of…

Height difference is comical

Lots of kickboxers tap from forearm choke. Michael McDonald tapped from one.

That’s because they don’t understand the difference between pain and injury(or potential injury).

"What pissed me off is that I’m Little Floyd’s father, They’re showing on TV him talking about this loyalty to Roger. F—- Roger! I’m his daddy. His loyalty should always be with me. I’m the reason he’s here today. I gave him life. Now he’s got Leonard Ellerbe and Roger sucking up to him. They’re just around to rip him off. He’s going to find out just like he did before."

Also because unless you’ve had lots of grappling practice, you’re liable to panic the first time you have a lot of pressure put on your throat. A seasoned grappler understands they can still breathe, and is therefore calm enough to find their way out of a forearm crush.

The screenshot of Kirsis before you play the video is indeed pretty unfortunate.

Was just about to post that. McDonald had the misfortune to draw a BJJ black belt and sumo champion his first MMA fight in Lyoto Machida.
