Melvin Manhoef v. Remy Bonjasky Fight Video
Another fight from Melvin Manhoef here as he faces Remy Bonjasky from 2008. This is the 2nd of 3 meetings between these two men, with Bonjasky winning the first contest way back in 2002 via decision. This is Manhoef's next K-1 fight after the Karaev KO we looked at yesterday, and also is coming on the heels of a 3 fight win streak in MMA. Remy was looking to bounce back after a decision loss to Peter Aerts in the semi-finals of the 2007 GP.
While Manhoef fares better in their 2009 Final 16 meeting, I think this is the most exciting of the Bonjasky/Manhoef trilogy. Melvin is really going for it here, particularly at the beginning as he takes the fight to Bonjasky, making for a very thrilling match-up.
As for Remy, I don't know if it's fighting in Amsterdam, or coming in off a loss, but he looks amazing here, fighting up to his "Flying Dutchman" moniker and turning in what I think is one of his career best performances. Whereas sometimes he uses to defense to wait out a decision victory, here he is mixing that defense with some serious offensive attacks, including a number of kicks that are painful to watch. And just how good are those kicks? Manhoef would need surgery to remove blood from his lungs and have tubes inserted in his chest after this fight. This fight kicked off Bonjasky's 9 fight, 2 year undefeated streak that included the 2008 GP win.
Manhoef is a tough man, but this one is all about Bonjasky.
