Roger Gracie Dominates 2010 BJJ Worlds

via www.tatame.com

Roger Gracie, who was fresh off his MMA win over Kevin Randleman in Strikeforce back in May, solidifed the fact that he's one of the greatest Jiu-Jitsu fighters of all time. Gracie returned to the 2010 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Long Beach California over the weekend where he took top honors in the Absolute (Openweight) and Super Heavyweight (under 221.0 lbs) Black Belt divisions.

Seven-time weight champion, three-time absolute champion: Roger Gracie became the greatest fighter in all history of Jiu-Jitsu. On an impeccable performance, Roger suffered only four points during the whole competition, and submitted all of his opponents, except Ricardo Demente, who he confronted on the weight finale. Rômulo Barral’s injury made things easier for the black belt, who did not have to fight the finale to become the absolute champion.

Watched the live stream yesterday

This dude is amazing, finishing everybody with basic moves. I was disappointed that Romulo got hurt b/c I think he could have beaten Roger this time. Roger was extremely gassed after the “Demete” fight, and complained that his MMA training had weakened his grips. That is probably why he couldn’t finish the choke on Ricardo before time ran out.

interesting news

thanks for the link. My quick thoughts:

-Roger Gracie is amazing,no doubt he is at least top3 P4P,but maybe he is THE best BJJ fighter in the world. I cant wait to see him more in MMA,I would rather watch world class BJJ wizards going for submission than world class wrestlers lay on each other

-Marcelo Garcia is another guy in the top3,and again…I wish he fought more in MMA,he is 0-1 so far, loss due to a cut, thats anticlimatic for a talent like Marcelinho.

-Cobrinha who nearly won his 5 title, and also probably a top10 BJJ fighter….he is a guy that according to rumours Aldo used to top out at trainings. Excuse me? The guy,who just runs through everybody with his vicious muay thai has so great BJJ that he taps out Cobrinha on a regular basis? Dana White likes to exegarrate a lot,but what he said in the promo video for Aldo vs Faber is absolutely true, this kid could be the greatest ever…

Aldo trains with Nova Uniao and Cobrinha is Alliance-Atlanta’s second-in-command. So, I doubt they trained together.

"His dad laid down all the labor. Now Roger and Leonard are the ones reaping all the benefits. I trained my son and Roger didn’t do (anything). If he’s that good, make a champion. He’s never taken anybody and made them a champion. He can’t do it." - Floyd SR on Floyd JR
