Alistair Overeem Set to Demolish Ricco Rodriguez at DREAM.15

Photo

Strikeforce is dropping the ball with their Heavyweight Champion, Alistair Overeem, but that doesn't mean he has to sit around and wait for Scott Coker and Co. to come up with a big fight for him. No. Instead, Overeem heads back to Japan and according to MMAJunkie, it is against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriguez.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the promotion that Overeem (33-11 MMA, 3-0 DREAM) has verbally agreed to face former UFC champion Ricco Rodriguez (42-11 MMA, 0-0 DREAM) at DREAM.15.

Bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly, and a formal announcement for the heavyweight contest should come soon after.

and it's back to can crushing in japan

by my math it’ll be 8-10 months before re-re-negotiations between fedor and strikeforce lead to a werdum rematch and than another 8-10 months before Overeem is free from his K1/can crushing obligations and will be able to fight the winner…..so we’ll finally have Fedor v Overeem scheduled in February 2012….to bad fedor will probably retire in January.

Is it sad...

…that this is actually the most interesting HW fight Dream has put on besides Ubereem/CroCop?

I expect an easy win for Ubereem but this is a better opponent than I thought they would get for him.

They have Sylvia and Arlovski, but they ducked Barnett, no way they’ll fight Overeem.

Welll,I think Overeem will compete at K-1 again,so its pretty obvious that he doesnt want MMA superfights before that. Ricco is a solid opponent,he is getting back to his winning form lately.

Ricco is on a serious upswing

This is a decent opponent for Overeem to fill the gap in between his next Strikeforce/K-1 fights

saw Rico first hand competing at the Grappler’s Quest tourney at this last UFC Expo. he looked sharp. that being said, in order to get that sub, gotta get the REEM to his back, no easy task
