Daily Fights: Cung Le Sanshou Competition

One final Cung Le fight in preparation for Saturday.  Here he competes in traditional sport Sanshou.  His opponent is clearly overmatched, giving Cung the opportunity to put the full range of Sanshou techniques on display.

You'll notice this fight is held on a raised platform.  Depending on the event, Sanshou fights can either be held in a ring, or on a platform.  When on a platform, you can also win the fight by knocking your opponent off.

I had no idea that Cung Le could wrestle so well.

He actually was a wrestler in college even before he got into Sanshou. You see very little of that in him today, but he definitely used it to his advantage when executing throws in Sanshou. He’s got a sweet fireman’s carry I’ve seen on a few occasions.
