It's Showtime; Badr Hari's Dark Shadow Emerges Again
Now, there is good news and bad news, the good news being that It's Showtime's annual ArenA show went down and looks to be one of the better kickboxing cards that fans will see this year. The bad news? Badr Hari's temper flared up again in a big way, and after being frustrated with Hedsy Gerges for not going down and staying down, Badr Hari who was handily winning the bout against Gerges let his temper get the better of him again and fans got a replay of the Remy Bonjasky fight.
This all went down in the second round of the fight, with the illegal kick from Badr putting a cap on an otherwise fantastic evening of fights. Badr Hari's second meltdown once again illustrates his rather fragile mental state at times which has always dragged down the Golden Boy's seemingly limitless potential. Still no word on the punishment, if any, which will be handed down by It's Showtime.
The main card had a lot of surprises which will without a doubt affect the upcoming K-1 season, as breakout star Daniel Ghita was absolutely dominated by Aschwin Balrak to open the card, leaving fans in doubt of Ghita's future, where before he was seen as one of the future big stars in the sport. Gago Drago once again disappointed against Leroy Kaestner, possibly knocking him down a few more pegs and continuing his string of spotty performances.
Yoshihiro Sato made the trek from Japan to help sharpen his skills against Pajonsuk, and in no way did it look like he was prepared for the challenge that he faced. The Muay Thai star was able to pick apart the Japanese standout and my best guess is that K-1 will pretend this never happened. Gokhan Saki made a return to form with a bang knocking out the always imposing Melvin Manhoef in the second round. Manhoef, of course, hasn't had the best luck over the past year or so, which makes the bout a bit bittersweet as two fan favorites who were in a hole, and one was going to dig himself out, while the other would slip further. Artur Kysenko and Murat Direkci rounded out the card, putting on a bout that fans in the ArenA were very excited about, with Kyshenko pulling off the win.
1. Aschwin Balrak (R3 - UD [5-0]) Daniel Ghita
2. Nieky Holzken (R3 - SD [4-1]) Cosmo Alexandre
3. Leroy Kaestner (R3 - SD [4-1]) Gago Drago
4. Pajonsuk (R3 - UD [5-0]) Yoshihiro Sato
5. Gokhan Saki (R2 - KO) Melvin Manhoef
6. Artur Kyshenko (R3 - SD [4-1]) Murat Direkci
7. Hesdy Gerges (R2 - DQ) Badr Hari

After seeing his last few fights, I really thought this crap was behind Badr. Has anyone seen a translation of what Manhoef was saying after the fight? Whatever it was, the crowd wasn’t interested lol.
The other fights were pretty good, though. I hated to see Manhoef lose, but the fight was entertaining. Honestly, though, I think I was most impressed with the quality of the stream. It was solid the entire 3 hours and looked really good.

Badr Hari needs to undertake some anger management counselling
I’d say I’m a fan of Badr Hari, when he fights clean that is.
There were a lot of things to take into account when judging his foul against Bonjasky (including the infamous “I’m crying on a chair, gimme the title” scene). But I have a hard time finding him excuses for this one. Gerges was KD at that moment and was about to get counted, ffs! All Badr Hari had to do is wait for him to get up and finish him off.
It looked like Hari really wanted to hurt Gerges during this fight, and he got frustrated because he failed to do it within the rules…

stupid...stupid act by Badr
but dont let one negative thing ruin the event for you. I only saw 3 fights, but those were exciting. Especially Saki vs Manhoef,Saki is big favourite of mine, and Manhoef is an always dangerous opponent,I was worried about Saki,so that fight was great for me.

They were title fights, so yeah.

Though I hate to contradict you, alas, neither one was a title fight. Holzken v. Alexandre was at a catchweight of 72.5kg, since Cosmo was stepping in for Giorgio, and Holzken normally fights at 70 or 72. Since Cosmo’s title is the 77kg title, it was not on the line. Why Direkci’s belt was not on the line is anybody’s guess, but it wasn’t, so he’s still the champ.
Of course, Hari v. Gerges WAS a title fight, and this ain’t pro wrestling, so Hesdy Gerges should indeed be your new It’s Showtime HW champ.

Oh duh.
Gerges champion via DQ is awesome.
Man, I just wanted a Dusty finish. Badr stomps Gerges, Gerges is handed the title, then Rutz comes out and gives it back to Badr.

And Manhoef didn’t know about it, thus setting up Manhoef v. Hari down the road… It’s genius I tell ya!

sato - pajonsuk
I had Sato winning the fight. He always came forward, blocked 90% of Pajonsuk offense, boxed well. Pajonsuk really tried to destroy the tempo by catching Sato everytime he could. Very close fight.
