K-1 MAX East Europe GP Results

There was not a lot of press going in, but this weekend marked the official kick-off to the 2010 K-1 season as K-1 MAX presented the East Europe GP in Minsk, Belarus. The GP tournament was won by local fighter Vitaly Hurkou.  Hurkou is a Muay Thai fighter out of Belarus's Patriot Gym and a gold medalist in the 2009 IFMA World Muay Thai Championships in Bangkok.  This was his K-1 debut.  In the tournament final he defeated Zamen Guseinov, Enriko Gogokhiia in the semis, and Lukasz Szul in the quarter finals, all via decision.  This earns Hurkou a spot in the MAX Final 16.

Also on the card, 2009 Final 16 competitor Zabit Samedov took on Rodney Glunder from Holland.  Samedov defeated Glunder via KO in round 3 with a left hook - only his 3rd KO victory in 12 fights in K-1.  Shaky footage of the final round is online here.
