Badr Hari v. Alexey Ignashov Rumored for Yokohama
New info on rumors for a major fight for K-1's Yokohama show. Kombat.ro is reporting that on April 3 we may see Badr Hari v. Alexey Ignashov. Normally, Kombat.ro is a very reliable source, however they are calling this a rumor, so at this point it's definitely not a done deal.
If it does indeed go down, this will be a great fight for the hardcore fans. At one time thought to be the future of the sport, Ignashov is a fighter that many fans fondly remember for his very strong performances in the early 2000's, including a KO over Semmy Schilt. Starting in 2005 he went on a downward spiral in the ring, though looked strong in his last outing for K-1 ColliZion, scoring a highlight reel KO over Ron Sparks.
What makes him such an interesting opponent for Hari is the two men's history. This is a rematch of their 2003 outing where Ignashov knocked Hari out at the very end of the 3rd round. There is no doubt Hari wants to avenge that loss, and while Ignashov is not the fighter he was in 2003, the emotion each man will bring still makes this a great fight. Fingers crossed that it moves from rumor to actual fight soon!

I don't know much about this guy
What’s his style? Is he legit? I’ll do a little digging
We're just a million little gods causin' rain storms, turning every good thing to rust.
About Ignashov? Like I said, he definitely was at one time considered a Hari-esque “next generation” kind of star. From about 2000-2004 he was red hot, scoring wins over tons of major names like Schilt, Aerts, Bernardo, Hari. Then in 04/05 he had two notable setbacks – being choked out in an MMA match by Shinsuke Nakamura, and injuring his knee against Bjorn Bregy. Since then he’s never found much consistency, showing flashes of what made him great, but never putting together a solid win streak. Today, he’s a guy that people want to see back at top form, and at only 32 there’s no reason he couldn’t get there, but he’s mainly looked at today as he “what could have been” kind of guy.

Imagine him as a lesser Semmy.
He uses his height and reach to keep people at bay and will clinch and throw knees a lot.
So I’m sure you can imagine how a knee injury hurt his game, as did K-1’s clinch rule a few years back.

Well, I wouldn’t call him lesser Semmy. They both use their size. clinch and knees, but Ignashov’s game is more diversified than Semmy’s and he doesn’t move like swamp monster.

He has a decent chance...
Hari is getting strong (roids?) but he is still very wild in the exchanges and if there’s one thing about Ignashov, he keeps his composure throughout the fight. He could take advantage of Hari’s recklessness ala Megareem.
Either way, great match up and I’ll be rooting for the Ignashov.
