New Flyweight Champion Kiyotaka Shimizu and interim Middleweight King of Pancrase Yuki Kondo.

New Flyweight Champion Kiyotaka Shimizu and interim Middleweight King of Pancrase Yuki Kondo.

Pancrase ran their first event of the year Sunday February 7th from the Differ Ariake in Tokyo.

In the headliner, veteran Yuki Kondo defeated Takenori Sato via decision (30-28 by all 3 judges) to win the interim Middleweight King of Pancrase. With that victory, Kondo will meet Ichiro Kanai to unify the interim and regular middleweight King of Pancrase titles on April 29, back at Differ Ariake. Also featured on that card will be the welterweight King of Pancrase bout between champion Takuya Wada, and Kengo Ura, who won a title eliminator over Shingo Suzuki earlier in the evening.

Kiyotaka Shimizu avenges his loss from his pro debut, back in June 2008, when he lost to Mitsuhisa Sunabe down in Okinawa and with that becomes the new Flyweight champion. It was a close fight and Sunabe was stunned when the judges gave the 2-0 decsion to Shimizu (29-29, 29-28, 29-28).

"The Former Super High-school Student" Tetsuya Yamada landed a big up-kick to the chin of Takafumi Ito midway through the 2nd round giving him the victory and the previously undefeated Grabaka fighter Shigeyuki Uchiyama lost his first fight to Tomonari Kanomata.
