Buakaw Por. Pramuk to Fight Hiroki Nakajima on New Year's Eve -- In Sengoku

Buakaw, the S-cup 2010 Champion to Fight for Sengoku via SportsNavi

In not-so-shocking news, we have a big fight announcement for the upcoming New Year's Eve shows in Japan, and it involves Buakaw Por. Pramuk taking on the K-1 MAX Japan runner-up Hiroki Nakajima in a 70kgs battle. What is shocking? That the fight will not take place under any FEG banner, be it K-1, DREAM or Dynamite!!, instead he will be fighting in the Sengoku card in a kickboxing bout.

Buakaw has been on rocky terms with FEG and was not invited back to participate in the K-1 World MAX tournament this year. That, of course, was K-1's official reply to Buakaw not being involved, as Buakaw and his camp have made it clear that they were incredibly displeased with FEG over the past few years. Buakaw was a dominant MAX fighter that the company treated like a burden as opposed to their champion, which drove one of the world's best fighters away from K-1 MAX and in the process damaged their credibility.

Now we look to New Year's Eve, where Dynamite!! can no longer expect support from TBS and the fledgling Sengoku that FEG reached out to, like a condescending big brother, to help out, is looking healthier and stronger than FEG going into the home stretch. Adding Buakaw vs. Nakajima gives Sengoku's kickboxing portion of their giant martial arts festival an air of legitimacy. We have reached an age where K-1 MAX fighters opt to fight for the competition, for a promise of less money, knowing that they will be paid the money owed to them and be in a better atmosphere.

Ouch.

Wow

I never thought i would see the day were k-1 would be in this kind of shape. But alot has changed the past two years. Do you guys remember when the Yokohama show always turned out to be there best show and had some big fights and kos ’ the past two years the yokohama show has been week. also look at how many less shows k-1 has done the past couple of years in max and k-1.

Who would have thought that k-1 might fold and sengoku would still be around.

also alot of people are going to be scratching there heads on how k-1 could be so broke.

Considering there strong tv deals. I just never thought i would see this, Just today i was watching some of my old k-1 shows from the late 90’s the crowds were huge. the fans were into the fights. I was watching Jerome Le banner vs Sam Greco, you dont even see fights like that any more.

K-1

By the way , you know something is not right, when you see masato retire, buakaw, and souwer just basically quit k-1 all in the same year, there three biggest stars are just gone.

something is not right over there.

Why do you have to make this another “Oh yeah, FEG is doomed, K-1 is a goner, blah blah blah” article? Hardly the first time Buakaw (or even Nakajima) has fought for another org, even before this year.

Can’t you people just enjoy that we get to witness what’s probably going to be a good fight instead of trying to spin any new bit of info into this massive web of gloomy and doomy speculation?

Well, to be fair, K-1 potentially closing is pretty massive news – about the biggest possible news a site with our focus could encounter. And I do think this is more news that points towards a K-1 demise. At this point, it’s no surprise to see Buakaw fighting for Sengoku, but K-1 has usually had a pretty good grip on their Japanese talents. To see one of their up and comers like Nakajima fighting for Sengoku is not good.

As for Buakaw, the loss of him and Souwer reminds me a lot of when guys like Rampage and CroCop left Pride before the fall.

All that said, I do agree with you that this is a fun fight. Nakajima is in over his head, but he’s a gamer, and should make this entertaining. And there’s no complaint about seeing Buakaw in action. Nice move from Sengoku!

They’re loaning out Krush fighters (of which Nakajima is one) alongside Koshien fighters like Matsukura. Guys from RISE are joining too. To say that FEG really considers Sengoku a rival at this point (considering both of their weaknesses) is a stretch.

And for the last time, Buakaw and Souwer weren’t invited to MAX finals. Oh sure, there are probably financial reasons for their noninvitation as well, but it’s not as if they stepped out because their honor was offended or because they were jumping ship.

I'll level with you

We don’t want anything bad to happen to K-1, dude.

We are one of, if not the biggest kickboxing site in the United States that does dedicated coverage of K-1, It’s Showtime and anything else we can get our hands on.

Shit, I remember it was 1994 and I was in Kenpo and everyone was talking about those crazy UFC shows that were happening (this was post-UFC2) and my sensei called it ‘bullshit’ and busted out some K-1 tapes he got from a Japanese store downtown and it just flooring me at the time. It started a lifelong love affair and there is no way in hell I want to see that just die.

It is part of our job to convey information that we get, and sadly, Buakaw’s beef with FEG is well-known and longstanding now, so him fighting on a Sengoku show is what it is.

what;s weird about the situation

is why Sengoku? Did they even ever offer a kickboxing segment? I thought they were strictly MMA. I think this bodes somewhat well for Japanese kick-boxing scene. If it were entirely dead, Buakaw would be at It’s Showtime or somewhere in Thailand, but he still sees good reason to put on Japanese shows. This may be optimism here but… I hope his and Souwer’s work still being done in Japan shows they’re still doing somewhat okay….

Sengoku's NYE show is massive

They are doing a hybrid MMA/Kickboxing show with 30+ fights, the main show will be a hybrid as well and have about 10 fights.

It is basically in the same vein that Dynamite!! would be without all of the freakshow shit. I agree that it is a good sign that Sengoku is dedicating themselves to kickboxing as well.

The only problem with Sengoku is they aren’t paying a ton, but like I mentioned, they pay what they promise. FEG can’t offer that right now.
