FEG Negotiating Contract with Tokyo Broadcasting System for Dynamite!! 2010, a Bad Omen
Our good friend at MMAFighting.com, Daniel Herbertson gave us all a really big scare earlier that FEG was going to have to pay TBS for their timeslot this year for Dynamite!!. For those that are unaware of what that means, it would essentially mean that Dynamite!! would be an infomercial and all of the money that FEG collects from advertising and all of the help the network gives them to promote the show is gone. Zach Arnold is all over the story.
If K-1 has to buy time on Tokyo Broadcasting System, this will in effect be the end of Kazuyoshi Ishii’s grand ‘pipeline strategy’ plan. When PRIDE collapsed, K-1’s big strategy to control the entire fight business in Japan was to control the major broadcast networks. If you wanted to be on a network (think: Yarennoka with former DSE staff), you had to work with K-1 and do business on their own terms. K-1 collected the rights fees from television and let the promoters collect whatever they could for the live gate. It was a dominant position for them to be in. It also kept the competition away from acquiring a substantial television deal (ask Sengoku) and created a strangle hold. However, that strangle hold is only as strong as the ratings that K-1 attracts and their product has gone completely cold with the public. Both their kickboxing and MMA properties have failed to appeal to the Japanese television audience.
As you can see, this is a disaster if true. This comes the same day where even more of the fears about FEG's financial situation have been confirmed by a few anonymous sources to Head Kick Legend; FEG is not doing well and there are probably more fighters than we know of that haven't been paid, some very close with the company and big names.
We all need to buckle down for the rocky road that has been 2010 for FEG and hope that PUJI's financial backing in 2011 is everything that it was promised to be.

It’s sad that FEG needs to keep putting on Dynamite despite it being a subpar show just out of tradition.
I always look forward to the NYE show. They usually deliver the goods. When Minowaman KO’ed Soko, followed by an uberkneee, followed by an Aoki breaking his oppoents arm, you cant ask for much more than that.

When Minowa KO’d Soko after 15 minutes of staring at each other. Alistair KOing a way, way out of his prime Fujita, and Aoki deciding to put the entirety of Japanese kakutogi at risk cause of being a general jackass?
Dynamite is the ultimate freakshow event. Shibata vs Izumi made the Koshien fighters look elite.
Sensationalism much? Doesn’t surprise me though cause it’s from Arnold. There are always many rumors floating around the web at this time in year and many of them are completely inaccurate. It was proven year by year. I don’t know why so many sites are buying this.
First of all, Dan just heard something which he put only on his twitter and not made a post about it at MMAFighting. Later he also wrote that he doesn’t know for sure cause there are different reports floating around. Why everyone is eating it like it’s 100% proven truth? And no, the fact that these rumors are being brought out is bad at all by any means. Everybody can start it. Even I can go and creaty a story adding to it some facts as to sound more convincing and in a week or so you will be reading about it on the net like it’s a groundbreaking info. The stories about SRC going bankrupt, Schilt being kicked out of K-1 for the “belt being stolen” comedy or Hari being dead hadn’t teach anybody something?
And now for the rumor. If you buy a slot on TV the TV station gives a fuck what you put on the card cause you’re paying for it yourself. They are already making profit and couldn’t care less about the ratings you will deliver, that’s completely on you. Now, if there are news swinging around that TBS people have demands as to the actual matchups taking place wouldn’t it be only logical that they are in fact pouring money into the whole thing? Unless someone is going to tell me that the heads at FEG are so stupid that they not only pay to be on TV but are also completely giving the rights to TBS for free. And just to add something, I know that the -63kg division has it’s future secured on TBS. To those that maybe want to start “FEG lost it’s TV deal with TBS” bullshit.
