Raul Catinas v. Imani Lee Fight Video
From this past weekend's Local Kombat show, here is K-1 Final 16 participant Raul Catinas in action. Catinas has had some big fights this year, defeating Carter Williams in Bucharest, and losing to Mighty Mo at the final 16. He's definitely looking to make a name for himself at the K-1 level, and has made some good strides this year.
His opponent is Imani Lee, most recently known as being one of Minowaman's Super Hulk style opponents at Dream.14. Minowaman choked the 300+ pounder out under MMA rules there, but Lee also has an OK kickboxing career. He was a regular in the K-1 Las Vegas GPs from 2005-2007, going 1-3 there with his K-1 highlight being a win over Jan Nortje.
This fight is from Local Kombat Sibiu, the 10th anniversary event for Local Kombat, held this past Friday, November 19. One quick note - in the video, the round they show after the 1st round is identified as "Round 3". This is just a typo, as the round is indeed round 2, and this does contain the complete fight.
I've been watching Catinas closely since his strong showing at the K-1 European GP in 2009, and this is another example of his good progress. He does a good job here of keeping the pressure up on Lee, eventually scoring the definitive knockdown in the 3rd. Catinas has also taken a page from the Dzevad Poturak handbook of clowning during a fight, and as long as that clowning doesn't cause him to lose fights, I've got no complaints.
Also on this card - K-1 2010 East Europe GP runner-up Sebastian Ciobanu defeated Petar Valkov via decision; Catalin Slave TKO'd Alexandru Popescu in the 2nd in the main event, and Local Kombat's go-to MMA sideshow fighter Alexandru Lungu improved to 7-2 with a round 1 KO of Albert Sarkozi. Catalin Morosanu did not compete on this event, as we previously reported. Our sincere apologies for the confusion. Complete results are in the full entry.
Special thanks to reader man'10 for pointing out this video in the FanPosts section. In that post he asks a good question - does Raul Catinas have what it takes to make it into the top 10 in K-1? I have my own take, but am interested to hear your thoughts. What do you think about Catinas's future?

Raul has what it takes
I think Raul Catinas has a bright future if he focuses on k1.He keeps improving because he started to go in Holland for training camps at SuperPro where he is trained by Dennis Krauweel also the trainer of Albert Kraus, Aalviar Lima,Rico Verhoeven. Catinas and Ghita(Kamakura Den Haag trainer Anil Dubar) are training in Holland but 4 times K1 champion Semmy Schilt comes for the 2nd time before Final 8 to train in Romania in Bucharest at Ciprian Sora’s academy that is an affiliated gym to Golden Glory.Ciprian Sora who is cousin with Daniel Ghita,Sora introduced Ghita to kickboxing.
do you know what impressed me the most on Catinas?
Catinas really learned his lesson after the fight against Mo!
Once again I have to (almost) agree with Meeee here
But I have to say I’d SOOO rather see Raul without the clown moves in the ring.
As about Raul’s participation in the Grand Prix, I’m not that sure he really belonged there. I was really happy to see him get that far, but I think it was a little too soon for him. And this might damage his confidence and might impact his future fights. A thing I HOPE I’m wrong at.
Also on this event other prospects
K1 fans will be hearing more often these names Bogdan Stoica and Andrei Stoica they are 2 brothers that are extremly talented K1fighters.
A couple more names to remember
Miodrag Olar, form Kudokai Sibiu, and Adrian Mitu, from Knockdown Timisoara are definitely worth following, as I think they will have a great future in kickboxing if they continue with the hard work. Mitu won the fight in Sibiu, and even though Olar lost, he did it in a good fashion, and against a much more experienced fighter, Marius Tita, a veteran of WuShu national and international competitions.
Here are the two fights I was talking about
Mitu’s win over Veselin Veselinov

Olar’s loss to Marius Tita

And here is another fight of Miodrag Olar, a win over Pirtea Aurel (a kempo and kickbox figter) – only a couple of weeks ago

about Olar and Mitu
pal, no offence, but stop advertising for fighters with no potential for the internaitonal competitions like Miograg Olar or Marius Tita. i see no potential on this Olar, he should better remain a coach for Raul Catinas. and Tita is already a veteran…
Adrian MITU on the other hand, pretty good fighter and very young, he can improve, even in this moment he is far from Stoica brothers, especially Andrei.
Pal, no offence to you eighter
I respect your opinion (and the clarity of it make me thing you come from the same realm as I do), so please respect mine too. I never said anything about Marius Tita, i think he is a product of a bygone era. He was big when there really was no real chance of a good fighter getting his head out of Romania. What I said was referring to Miodrag Olar. I happen to think he has a good future in front of him, if he continues to improve and dedicates himself to this noble art. And I will continue to think so, weather you like it or not.
It is a matter of opinion, and I reserve the right to have one.

Andrei Stoica, the new prospect of Romania comes from Wushu
I think if he add some more weight, Andrei Stoica can be the next Daniel Ghita. he improved so much and he trained a lot with Ghita on “Respect Gym Bucharest”
the promoter Edi Irimia believes a lot in him and Romania will have the chance to have the 4th K-1 fighter in top 25 after Ghita, Catinas and Morosanu.
i was impressed also by his brother Bogdan Stoica, who comes from Qingda, you can also search on youtube videos with him. he isnt at his brother’s level, but he can catch him from behind, because since his last fight i saw massive improvement.
super fight ANDREI STOICA in France
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=locw7zVeEcg
it is impossible not to be impressed, this guy has all to be even a K-1 finalist.
And here it happens that my opinion mirros yours
I also think Andrei has the potential to lead the next generation of young Romanian fighters on the international scene, as you do.
Where I have make a separate opinion is on the matter of Mr Irimia. Not that I do not respect and understand his business methods, directed at creating a good record for his fighters thru less than top level opponents, but since this is a sports site and not a business one, I have to say I’d rather see the Stoica brothers fight better kickboxers, so that none of them ends up in the same position as the younger of the Poturak brothers was last friday night. If you catch my point ;)

Alexandru Lungu vs Sarkozi
I would not call this an MMA fight. As I would not call that any of Lungu’s latest fights. Sorry, but we have much better MMA fighters here, that very few people know about. The Doczy borthers, from Reghin, fight in North AMerican Grappling Association, after they fought for years in Vale Tudo Spain. Bogdan Cristea fights MMA in the It’s Showtime 3 – The Sand gala on december 18th. That’s what I call real MMA fighters.

Oh, don’t get me wrong – I don’t think Lungu is a great MMA fighter by any means. But he brings that bizarre entertainment value that many more technically skilled fighters lack. I hope FEG picks him at some point as a Minowaman opponent.

Yeah, the truth is hard to hide
Fraser, unfortunately, he is pretty much the ONLY one that people here in Romania think of, when they hear of MMA fighters. Sand, but true, for a country with so much potential on the full contact sports scene. And with such a great and old wrestling school.
Minowaman?Hm…he might have a tough time there, Lungu. But then again, so he would with the likes of good ol’ Bob Sapp.
Catalin Slave, NOT Catalin Morosanu fought with Alexandru Popescu
It was Catalin Slave, a -70kg fighter from Metrorex Club, in Bucharest who fought with another fighter from Bucharest, Alexandru Popescu from Tai Shin Do Gym. Catalin will fight against Garry Goodridge on the 27th of november, at the K-1 Svandinavia : “Rumble of the Kings”
Thanks for the clarification – I had seen it listed both ways, but made an error reporting it. Such is the difficulty reporting through translations!

Glad to have helped a little
You can always count on us (Natiunea MMA at least) to help with all the translation need that Headkicklegend has in the fine and smooth Romanian language ;)
Just wanted to take a moment and say a huge thank you to everyone posting about this event. It’s great to get a local perspective on these international events, and we really appreciate the excellent insight all 3 of you have offered. Please – keep it coming!

And a BIG Thanks to you and all the guys at Headkicklegend
For the great job you all do at keeping the web updated with the best and newest of the kickboxing world, a domain so much less popularized and reflected on the internet as MMA is nowadays.
A piece of advice to all your readers (and this has nothing to do with the country I come from): I’d keep my eyes open for the Romanian fighters, they have started to work their way on the international scene, and they will be coming to you more and more from now on.
