Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Dynamite!! 2009 Ratings Are In

It looks like Tanigawa's estimate of 20% was a bit generous of an assumption, that being said, these were the best ratings that they've seen since 2006 which had a peak of 19.9%. Zach Arnold breaks it down.

The final numbers: NHK’s Kohaku music show - 40.8% (37.1% and 40.8% for the two parts), Dynamite!! with Masato’s last match drew a 16.7%, and Nippon TV’s Downtown comedy special (hotelman 24 hours) did a 16.4%. Fuji TV did a 9.2% rating for it’s program.

Detailed numbers: Part 1 for Dynamite, 11.8%. Part 2, 16.7% (main fights). Part 3, 10.6% (over-run). Those numbers in terms of pattern fall in line with past NYE MMA events for ratings as far as the low-up-down.

Now, take into account the card does not air in order like it did on HDNet in the United States. Much like HDNet it airs on a tape delay, the first portion of the show included Koshien and a bulk of the DREAM vs. SRC fights. The second, highly rated portion was Ishii vs. Yoshida and the entire Masato vs. Andy Souwer fight with the lead-up and farewells. This part was obviously what scored the ratings. The last portion was mainly a clip show of Manhoef vs. Misaki, Overeem vs. Fujita, Aoki vs. Hirota and a replay of Ishii vs. Yoshida. Omissions look to be the Kawajiri fight, which was most likely neutered by being so long without much action.

These are the best ratings that they have seen since 2006, which is a good sign. Hopefully they can keep their upward momentum going.

I think it's the last hurrah

With Masato retiring, Ishii and Kid losing I can’t see FEG having a bona fide draw in the near future. Which is a terrible shame considering how many people want to see successful Japanese fighters evident in the Kameda vs. Naito rating.

KID is done, has been for a while

His fight was in the first, lower-rated section of the event. His star has worn itself out.

But the Dream event when he fought Warren did a 16,2% IIRC. He did clearly wash up this year but still was a draw when 2009 began.

I can’t believe they cut Minowa. They should have at least showed an edited version.

Correction

They did show Minowaman and Sokodjou. I think it was right after the Koshien. Early on, leastways. They omitted the Kawajiri, Mousasi, Sefo fights. [I live in Japan, watched it on TV.]
