The Dream is Dead: Mayweather and Pacquiao Both Signed Other Fights

Now, I feel like this was bound to happen. We've had some (albeit minor) coverage of the possible superfight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. The truth is, there was too much at stake and the requirements both sides had were just too much. This doesn't mean that all hope is lost, but it does mean that both men have signed on for fights against different fighters for the first half of 2010, finally killing off the hopes of the superfight happening sometime this year.

The first fight that was announced was Manny Pacquiao will take on Joshua Clottey in the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, one of the rumored sites for the Pacquiao/Floyd megafight. It seems like the biggest news about this fight is where it is taking place.

"Bob was persistent in keeping this alive as a place for Manny's fight," Jones told ESPN.com, while celebrating the deal with Arum and duBoef. "I'm so glad Bob came back to us. We are so excited about this event and that we will be able to bring a big fight here for the Hispanic boxing fans, and all boxing fans in this area, who are also Dallas Cowboys fans. It's important for us. Manny is such an exemplary athlete."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Jones could not contain his excitement.

Then comes the news of the Mayweather fight, as he will take on Sugar Shane Mosley on May 1. This is a fight that has been in the making for more than 10 years, but at this point isn't as big of a deal as the Pacquiao fight.

Mayweather Jr. maintains that Mosley has been ducking him for years and he repeatedly called him out in 1999 when he was fighting at 130 lbs and Mosley was at 135 lbs. Mosley moved up to 147 lbs and eventually beat Oscar De La Hoya.

To say the least, this match has the requisite acrimony. I really don't think either fighter likes the other.

This fight should quiet some of the critics who have accused Floyd of cherry-picking smaller fighters. Of course, the fact that Mosley is 39 years old won't keep all of the boo birds quiet.

However, Mosley should be a difficult opponent for Floyd. He's bigger and stronger than most opponents Floyd has faced. He's also extremely experienced and has been in major fights for the past 10 years.

Such a frustrating waste of the fight everyone wanted to see.

I actually like Floyd/Mosley

But I saw a great point raised today; if Floyd doesn’t require Mosley to submit to the same tests he wanted Manny to take, it is easy to assume he is ducking Manny or there is something else involved.

I still see it happening eventually. I’ve also heard Goldenboy had a hand in this, as now they get a big payday out of it.

WARNING! Mayweather, Berto, Shane, Shaefer and associates are planning to take fans to a very expensive ride!

Who in his right mind would voice his doubt about Andre Berto’s alibi of withdrawing from his Mosley fight? Whoever raises an eyebrow on his excuse will be accused of being indifferent, callous and cruel. But, that’s the point. Shaefer, Floyd and Oscar are the axis of evil who concocted this excuse.

Personally, I smell something fishy about Berto’s withdrawal. It’s wicked, to say the least. To use one country’s earthquake disaster in exchange for monetary gains is devious!

But, who would dare say that? That’s how evil Oscar, Floyd and Shaefer is. But, I’m not an idiot to not see through Shaefer and associates’ charade. Andre Berto was paid ‘step-aside’ in the amount of millions in favor of a Mayweather-Mosley fight.

For good measure, Mosley was offered millions in compensation to take a dive to make sure Floyd gets to keep his lossless record. Remember, Mosley, Mayweather and Berto are under Golden Boy’s tutelage and what they’re doing here is strictly business.

They will try to sell this Mayweather-Mosley fight as something legit but, watch out for telltale signs of ‘scripted’ fight. Mark my word: this fight is a charade.

Watch this fight but be on the guard because they are going to take you for an expensive rollercoaster ride! As soon as their brazen lie is exposed, hit the streets and demand that they give you back your money!

Well, do you have a source on this?

Other than a hunch? I mean, I agree that it all fell into place quite neatly.

Very reliable source!

I heard from a reliable source that have seen an email from the camp of Mayweather to keep this ‘buy-out’ plan a secret. You just have to trust me on this.

By the way, why was the Mosley-Berto fight cancelled, and not rescheduled?
