FEG Fighters and Staff Pick Hari to Win

Photo

FEG has been asking their fighters and staff to weigh in on the upcoming Grand Prix.  Answers have  ranged from the well thought out, to the just plain goofy, to a few that make you question what the person is thinking.  But it's been fun to see how different fighters see this event going down.

In the end, the favorite to win it is Badr Hari, with Overeem coming in second.  The full breakdown is as follows:

Karaev: 2 votes (5% of total)

Hari: 16 votes (41%)

Overeem: 11 votes (28%)

Teixeira: 1 vote (3%)

Schilt: 5 votes (13%)

Le Banner: 0 votes

Bonjasky: 3 votes (8%)

Zimmerman: 1 vote (3%)

To me, one of the most interesting aspects of this result is the very low number of people picking either Schilt or Bonjasky - both three time champions who have dominated the Grand Prix in the last decade.

In other predictions news, K-1 has a fan poll on their Japanese web site.  Currently, Hari is leading that poll as well with 23% of the vote.  After that, everyone else is within a few points of each other, except for Teixeira who comes in far below at dead last.  You can find that poll here.

Finally, be sure to check back later this week for HKL's predictions.

I'm going for a darkhorse Overeem

I think people look at what happened with Schilt last year and Aerts eliminating him from contention very early on, then looked at the Badr Hari knockout and think he is done. Even with the Ghita bout, everybody was just picking Ghita to win, which is well and good, but it was Schilt’s fight to lose. Schilt proved a lot of people wrong and will continue to do so.

Schilt is in the finals no matter what. I’m fully expecting an Overeem/Badr rematch, and that fight depends on who had the quicker bout before, I think.
