Takanori Gomi's Latest U.S. Visit
The last Vale Tudo Japan show was former PRIDE lightweight star Takanori Gomi's last fight in Japan, so he says. Gomi is once again prepared to come to the United States to try to make a name for himself as a top fighter. Once considered one of the best lightweights in the world after becoming the PRIDE BUSHIDO star and ace, Gomi's luster has worn off considerably after some poor performances and heartbreaking losses.
After the last Affliction show fell through, talk of Gomi fighting in the United States quieted down again, but apparently he is right back to trying to get noticed by promotions in the United States. Sherdog has an update on what Gomi's latest visit entails.
Takanori Gomi joined training practice with the fight team at American Kickboxing Academy on Tuesday in San Jose, Calif., Sherdog.com has learned.
Bob Cook, one of AKA's head trainers, said the Japanese striker "mostly grappled" with UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch, Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson, Justin Wilcox, as well as with middleweight Trevor Prangley and UFC heavyweight Cain Velasquez.
The former Pride lightweight champion is in the U.S. reportedly to take meetings with both the UFC and Strikeforce. Cook is a consultant for Strikeforce.
Gomi also attended the Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto boxing match last Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Gomi in strikeforce would be the best
as that way he can build himself up after his losses, and also get exposed to the mainstream North American fan which, if he were to string together some wins would set him up for the UFC with the contract he desires.
Also did anyone else see Phil Ivey at the pacquiao fight?
