Recap of Fighter Picks for Grand Prix Finals

As we mentioned last week, K-1 is interviewing various FEG stars to get their take on who will win the GP.  Answers come from those with a lot of knowledge about K-1 (Sokodjou) to those who freely admit they don't know what they're talking about (Sakuraba).  Still, they are fun little segments.  A recap of the picks made so far:

Kazushi Sakuraba: Alistair Overeem via 3 straight guillotine submissions

Shinya Aoki: Semmy Schilt, because he is big

Bob Sapp: Badr Hari over Remy Bonjasky in the finals

Hideo Tokoro: Badr Hari

Hong-Man Choi: Ruslan Karaev

Minowaman: Remy Bonjasky over Badr Hari in the finals

Sokoudjou: Badr Hari over Remy Bonjasky in the finals

The most interesting aspect to come out of these picks so far (aside from Choi's bizarre faith in Karaev) is the number of fighters picking Bonjasky over Schilt in the semi-finals.  Most everyone agrees on a final 4 of Hari, Overeem, Bonjasky, and Schilt, but while most talk you hear on the internet has Schilt over Bonjasky, these fighters are consistently giving the edge to the defending champion.  Is this a dislike of Schilt's style?  Putting too much stock in his losses to Hari and Aerts?  Or do they have it right and Schilt is being overrated by others?

A lot of people on the net are picking Bonjasky as well.

I’ve got Schilt/Hario in the finals, and that will be a toss up.

No way Bonjasky Takes Schilt

I love Remy, but no. The problems he had with Overeem due to size and clinching will be tenfold for Semmy.

Schilt is kinda figured out ever since the last Aerts fight. He had hard time with Gerges and Ghita. Yes,beat them both clearly, but it wasnt as dominating performance as it used to be from 2005 to 2007. And we saw what Hari did to him.

With that said,Remy is just a good matchup for him. I dont think Remy can brawl like Ghita or Hari can,he is not an in-fighter. Remy will stay Remy.

Still,Im picking the flying dutchman to win it all.

Remy over Overeem via controversial decision.

I hope Jerome will beat Schilt, because it’s torture to watch him fight. I think Badr vs. Remy would be the most interesting final fight.
