Brett Rogers is Crazy; Wants Fight with Overeem

If you saw Strikeforce on Saturday you saw the world's best heavyweight dismantle a very game Brett Rogers. Kudos to Rogers and his camp as nobody expected him to last longer than Arlovski and Sylvia combined. That said, his camp is laying it on very thick now, claiming a bad stoppage, first of all;

Reilly, Rogers’ chief trainer, on Sunday told MMAWeekly.com that while he disagreed with the fight’s stoppage, he wasn’t going to second-guess referee “Big” John McCarthy.

“You can’t fall down like that in an MMA fight,” he said. “He was defending himself, he wasn’t knocked unconscious, but it is what it is.”

It doesn't end there, though, as Rogers is apparently eyeing K-1 World Grand Prix entrat and Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair "The Demolition Man" Overeem and possibly Japan. If he gets what he wishes for it might involve another horrifying KO loss.

Which path Rogers and Reilly choose to get there is the question. Reilly said he was open to whatever Strikeforce had in store, but a few options stuck out.

 “We would love the experience of going to fight in Japan,” he said. “And we’re on Overeem’s heels, so wherever he goes. He sets foot on American soil; we’re on him. We were supposed to fight him in September. It grates on our nerves that the champion that’s been holding his belt for the last two years hasn’t defended his belt.

 “If we’ve got to go through Antonio (Silva) or Fabricio (Werdum), then that’s what we’ve got to do.”

 Reilly said Rogers would take no mercy on his next opponent.

 “Whoever Brett’s fighting next, they should make their peace with God.”

I don’t think it escaped people’s notice that Brett already started to gas at the end of the first round. Now compare that to Alistair’s fight against Aerts, where he didn’t show signs of fatigue for three full rounds. That just doesn’t bode well for Rogers. (Not that he’d get a straight shot at the title after losing anyway)

Well, the rounds are shorter..

By two minutes, but even then, that means Overeem still went for more than 2 MMA rounds. He is also clearly in better shape and has one of the best guillotines in the business.

Overeem’s a terrible style matchup for Brett, I doubt his trainer really wants this fight (they turned it down before).

I'm not sure who is a good matchup for Brett..

Other than guys that like to stand and bang.
